` Garret Room `

~  Writer`s Notes ~

Andrew Wyeth was always inclined to see sleep as death, the memory of seeing his father's corpse he painted the "Garret Room".  The subject, though napping, is suitably "laid out" on a patchwork quilt. In Wyeth's imagination, he was asleep as a king lying in state.

~ Inspiration ~

"I think a person permeates a spot, and a lost presence makes the environment timeless to me, keeps an area alive. It pulsates because of that."

- Andrew Wyeth
